Khao Sok National Park lies inland in Surat Thani province, between the Andaman coast and the Gulf of Thailand. Limestone peaks rise out of dense rainforest, with clear rivers running between them. It is how we add rainforest to a beach trip.
We plan it as a private day from Khao Lak or Phuket. The day follows the water: river or lake in the morning, an unhurried lunch, and no rush on the drive back.

The Sok River by Canoe
Down the Sok River in a private canoe with a local guide, between limestone walls under the rainforest canopy. Early in the morning you hear the forest before you see it.
A Bamboo Raft, Slowly
The same river at a slower pace: a bamboo raft steered by a local boatman, close to the water and the riverbank. For anyone who would rather watch than paddle.
Cheow Lan Lake
A long lake of green water between limestone peaks, explored by longtail. Out on the water there are floating raft houses, for a night away from everything.
